The V-1's plinth is machined from a single pour of composite phenolic resin — a material selected for its resonance characteristics, not its cost. Most turntable plinths ring at frequencies that muddy the midrange. This one does not. The internal mass is deliberately asymmetric, calculated to shift the first bending mode above 200 Hz, out of the bass registers that matter most to the recording.
The platter bearing runs on an inverted hardened steel point, seated in a PTFE-lined sleeve. It is pre-loaded at the factory to eliminate vertical play without creating friction. In a decade of production, no customer has returned one for bearing service.
The tonearm is static-balanced, nine inches, with an effective mass of 11.2 grams — chosen to match the compliance range of the Ortofon 2M series without restricting future cartridge changes. Everything on the V-1 was chosen because it was right.
Each V-1 is assembled by one of three engineers. Build time: six weeks from order.
